Program Goals:  Jitterbugs (School Age)

1.  To provide a loving and relaxed environment where the children's physical and emotional needs are met.

2.  To establish an atmosphere of respect for others and self.

3.  To establish respect for the equipment and materials.

4.  To help the children develop self control and a clear understanding of the expectations in this environment.

5.  To provide a routine that allows for the kind of activities that the children might be involved with if they were at home.

6.  To provide an environment where the children will develop an enthusiasm for learning, exploring, and creativitiy through the use of constructive play activities in the areas of:  art, drama, literature, cooking, music and movement, social science, large motor, science, manipulative, multi-cultural, health and safety activities and field trips.

7.  To provide ample opportunity to develop coordinations and large motor skills through physically active and outdoor play.

8.  To establish room awareness among all staff to insure that a safe environment is always present both indoors and outdoors.

9.  To establish an observation system in which notes on children are kept.

10.  To be supportive of parents encouraging involvement, encouraging open and honest communication while using tact and discretion.

11.  To provide an opportunity to become independent and responsible through self directed and individualized activities.

12.  To provide the children with appropriate alternatives to angry and aggressive behavior.

13.  To learn how to participate and function well in a group.
